Greetings Arch Hunters...today is Arch Wednesday! (Issue #18)
Worldwide arch count: 6065 (Net Change: 0)
Each week we update the World Arch Database (WAD) with newly reported arches as well as more accurate data and/or photos for existing arch entries. Each Wednesday (day may vary), we send you a list of the updated arch entries with a summary of what has changed.
This past week I (Stone Canyon) have
been whipping around the Whipple Mountains in eastern California, USA on
arch hunting expeditions. Good news and bad news: the good news is that
I have found many previously undocumented arches here and in the
Buckskin Mtns across the Colorado River in Arizona (one of these arches,
a 35-footer, is shown in the photo above). The bad news is that I won't
be entering all of these into the WAD until this coming weekend because
I don't want to cut into precious arch-hunting time! So, expect to see
an "Arch Wednesday" email on Sunday, December 23, 2012 with a minimum of
20 new arch entries from these areas.
Coming up in 2013 (if we make it that far!): Largest Arches Inventory Project (LAIP)
During the early part of 2013, we'll be focusing on updates for the biggest arches in the world, defined in the World Arch Database as arches having a superior Greater Arch Dimension (or GAD).
Happy Arch Hunting!
